Correlational Studies Framework

Correlational Studies

Corrleatinal Studies are a form of scientific study or investigation where the researcher examines for relationships between one or more variables in order to gain insight on some phenomeon, issue or problem. Thus, like inquiries involving experiments, correlational studies often too test out out predictions in the search for knowledge. On the other hand, unlike typical scientific experiments that are usually “in vitro”, correlational studies are carried out in the real world. In many cases, no experiments are done at all where surveys are employed instead or data is merely collected on phenomena that have already happened. (x)

For example, students might observe changes in tide with respect to the moon or do a survey with AIDS patients who have taken a specific drug for 5 years to make relationships involving the effects of the drug).

Correlational studies are very important in (at least) two important areas: when it is unethical to carry our an experiment (ex. looking at the effects of radiation on humans) or when a simulation is too difficult to reconstruct (ex. looking at effects of lava flow on certain species of reptiles resistant to heat)
