Starting Strategies

How to Launch Process-Oriented Science in the Classroom

Starting a process-oriented unit or even lesson can be more challenging given the its focus is on method and not on content. One highly effective strategy is the integration of an issue. Students can be exposed to some relevant and even personal issue in a variety of ways (reading, video, watching a skit, field-trip). In turn, the issue often involves a challenge, problem or question to explore. Such exploration is a critical step for all process-based frameworks. In the very least, any launch should be personal and authentic to maximize student engagement and portray better the nature of science in education.

Many of the resources provided in this site are centered around issues. For further information, the author would like to direct you to the resource page.
